SOUS CHEF

Ferment Brewing Company, a craft brewery located in the heart of Hood River, OR, is passionate about creating exceptional beer and providing a welcoming atmosphere for our guests. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Sous Chef to join our team.

Job Overview:

As the Sous Chef, you will manage daily food program operations, including ordering, inventory, employee management, quality control, and health regulation compliance. Reporting to the Chef & General Manager, you must uphold financial standards and professionalism, fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with menu development, seasonal changes, and quality standards.
  • Manage inventory to meet KPIs and oversee BOH team efficiency.
  • Coach and develop team members, addressing issues promptly.
  • Ensure food quality, portioning, and presentation.
  • Maintain BOH systems, cleanliness, and sanitation standards.
  • Oversee product ordering, inventory, and kitchen upkeep.
  • Collaborate with Chef & GM to resolve concerns and ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications:

  • Have previous experience in a similar role.
  • Possess excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to maintain composure and focus in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Have a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Exceptional culinary skills with a talent for developing and executing creative, innovative menus.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with fermentation and pickling processes.
  • Experience in catering and large event menu planning is preferred
  • Maintain current food handlers license.

ASSISTANT FOH MANAGER

Job Overview:

As the Assistant FOH Manager, you will split your time between overseeing staff and serving our guests. This dual role requires flexibility, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to manage and support our front-of-house team effectively.

Responsibilities:

Supervisory Duties (2 days/week):

  • Oversee FOH staff, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Train and mentor new hires and provide ongoing training for existing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Address and resolve any customer service issues promptly.

Serving Duties (3 days/week):

  • Provide exceptional service to guests, taking orders, and delivering food and beverages.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assist with setting up and closing down the FOH area.

Qualifications:

  • Obtain and maintain current food handlers and OLCC liquor license.
  • Have previous serving/beertending experience.
  • Have previous management-related experience.
  • Be able to accurately handle cash and work with numbers.
  • Possess excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Have a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays with the ability to move between shifts and days as needed.
  • Be able to maintain composure and focus in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
